Touchless Button
The touchless button application is designed to use the A121 sensor as a contactless button. This proves useful in scenarios where registering a button press is needed but without physically touching a surface. The algorithm is robust against false detections since it automatically re-calibrates over time to disregard any static objects that are placed in the detection area. Typical applications include pedestrian road crossings, door opener buttons etc.
Considerations
Sensor configuration
If you setup your own sensor configuration for Virtual button, avoid using profiles above 3, as higher profiles will cause longer direct leakage and thus interfere with the functionality.
Detection zones
If you set up dual detection zones, for instance one near (0-30 mm) the sensor and one far (0-120 mm) from the sensor, the probability is high that you will trigger both near and far zone detection simultaneously if an object is close to the sensor. The reason is that an object that is close to the sensor will introduce signal bounces between the sensor PCB and the object, which are then measured as far distance detections. So, if an object is close to the sensor, expect to get button press triggers for near AND far zone. If an object is present in the far zone you can expect to only trigger button press from §the far away zone.
